Who is AEMMP Records?????

So as the first little bit of AEMMP information that we have we wanted to take a few minutes and introduce some information on AEMMP. You heard the boring history of AEMMP but we thought you might be more interested in learning more about who is in charge of running the revamped AEMMP records so that it will become better then ever!!!! Keep checking this posting. These people are busy and we had to hunt for them to get what we could from them.

First off it is run by two teachers (advisors or whatever you wanna call them)

Martin Atkins-
Maybe you heard of a band called Public Image Limited??? (or maybe not) Anyway this man has been in bands for years. He is has run his Chicago based record label Invisible Records for more then 20 years. Martin wrote the book Tour:Smart which is the bible on touring. He is revamping the label this year with his experience and an amazing team.
"20 is the number of years before i can have a legal drink with my youngest son Cole Vincent.....if i have re-started drinking by then"

David Lewis-
Ever been to the portfolio center? You might know him from there. He is specifically the Creative Industry Liaison...
David has spent the last 10-years of his life pinching himself -- not in a weird masochistic way -- but rather because he has had the honor of working with such a variety of talented people. As a teenager he began programming arts events and concerts. Before long he found himself knee-deep either marketing, booking, or running PR campaigns for some of the nation's biggest underground comedians and musicians: Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, Blur, The Blood Brothers, Brian Posen, Ted Leo, Dr Dog, Patton Oswalt and Jawbreaker to name a few. Upon finishing his degree at the Art Institute Of Chicago Lewis founded Riot Act Media, to offer proactive, scalable, artist-friendly campaigns for the arts & music community.

Lewis has spent time in the trenches as a writer (Time Out Chicago, Planet, Thrasher, Play), a film maker / editor, and most recently as a father of his son, Harper, whom enjoys throwing food, waking up at 4 am, and yelling nonsense .... much like his dad.

Inspired by the ever-changing melodies that paint his world Nicholas Terry is a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and artist developer. Having worked in Jazz, R&B, Pop, Acoustic and Folk music among other genre's Nicholas has crafted a diverse background in the music industry. After pursuing many routes in the music industry he has found his home in Chicago, where he's in his final year at Columbia College.

To me 20 is important because it's the age when the last two genius's in soul music were as they created the first of many classic albums. Stevie Wonder with Music of My Mind the first of his self produced, self written classic albums in the 70's. And Prince with his self-titled album which was also the first of his completely self-produced and self-written classic albums.

SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY AEMMP!

AEMMP RECORDS is Columbia College's student-managed, not-for-profit record company. AEMMP (Arts, Entertainment & Media Management Program) Records was founded by Irwin Steinberg, then chairman of Polygram Records, and Chuck Suber, then publisher of Down Beat magazine and director of the graduate program AEMM department.

The principal purpose of AEMMP Records is to provide a real-life, hands-on experience in the professional operation of a recording company. The company is part of the "Decision-Making: Music Business" course and is managed by graduate and qualified undergraduate students in the music business concentration. The students are required to follow established business procedures, and make business decisions for talent selection, manufacturing, distribution, promotion and marketing.

The company signs and promotes one act each year. One of the goals of this project is to demonstrate through the students' efforts the market potential of the product they have chosen to release. Two of the acts AEMMP Records has released over the years have been signed to record labels with major distribution, as a result of the students' collaborative efforts: the pop/rock band The Bad Examples, and the dance band A.T.M.

The best Bill to do tricks with. ;-)

The Raleigh Twenty

A conventional bicycle is too large to fit conveniently in a car trunk. Bicycles are prohibited as baggage on many bus and rail lines. Airlines charge ridiculous amounts of money to transport bicycles. A folding bicycle can solve all of these problems. Folded inside a duffel bag or carrying case, it passes anywhere as just another piece of luggage.
Some folding bicycles, designed to be as compact and light as possible, sacrifice riding qualities. Many don't even have enough seatpost extension to allow a grown man of average height to pedal efficiently. The frame is often flexible, and there may be little room for baggage.

The Raleigh Twenty, on the other hand, is a workhorse. Its small wheels entail some slight increase in rolling resistance, but it has a normal riding position and good handling qualities. With the small rear wheel placed well behind the seat tube, the wheelbase is conventional, and a large amount of baggage can fit on top of the rear rack.

You have to see it to believe it. This little bike folds up into a suitcase!

20th Century

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation (spelled from 1935 to 1985 as Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation), also known as 20th Century Fox, Fox 2000 Pictures, or simply Fox, is one of the six major American film studios.

Located in the Century City area of Los Angeles, just west of Beverly Hills, the studio is a subsidiary of News Corporation, the media conglomerate controlled by Rupert Murdoch. The company was founded in 1935, as the result of a merger of two entities, Fox Film Corporation founded by William Fox in 1915, and Twentieth Century Pictures. Some of 20th Century Fox's most popular movie franchises include the Star Wars, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Home Alone, Die Hard, Revenge of the Nerds, Alien and Predator series.

Twentieth Century Fox Television, Inc. is the television production division of the 20th Century Fox movie studio, a subsidiary of News Corporation. Twentieth Television is a separate distribution arm overseen by News Corp.'s Fox Television Stations Group, although it uses a variant of the studio logo.

20th Century Fox Television was founded in 1949 as other studios were branching out into television production as well. At that time, the company was known as TCF Television Productions, Inc. until 1955. The logo from 1960 to 1992 seemed to suggest that the division was called 20th Television Fox, but this was untrue. TCFT absorbed the operations of TV production companies Metromedia Producers Corporation in 1986 and MTM Enterprises in 1998, and is the current distributor for most of the shows originally produced by the two companies. Since 1986, TCFT has produced the bulk of series airing on the Fox network, including The Simpsons, M*A*S*H, Married... With Children, COPS, Doogie Howser, M.D., The X-Files, NYPD Blue, King of the Hill, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and 24.

The Curse of Tecumseh

Legend: A death curse threatens U.S. presidents elected in years evenly divisible by twenty.

Origins: With one exception, since 1840, U.S. Presidents who have been elected in years ending in zero have been killed or have died of natural causes while in office. And the one exception literally came within an inch of death.

It's hard to know what to make of such a sequence, but folks have certainly tried over the years. Such a string of presidential mortality is deemed too improbable to have occurred naturally, giving rise to rumors about a fatal Indian curse among those unwilling to recognize that chaos sometimes takes the form of coincidence. Randomness is disquieting; Indian curses are, in comparison, the lesser of the evils because they at least support the illusion that there is order in our universe. In this odd way, belief in predestined fatalities is comforting.

William Henry Harrison, who was elected in 1840, died of pneumonia at the age of 68, exactly one month after his inauguration.

Abraham Lincoln, first elected in 1860, was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth just after embarking on his second term in office in 1865.

James A. Garfield won the 1880 election. He was shot in the back in a Washington railroad station waiting room in July 1881 and died of his wounds in September 1881.

in 1811. (Tecumseh died in the 1813 Battle of the Thames, again fighting troops led by Harrison.) According to lore, the famed Indian chief cursed the Great White Fathers. No explanation is given for why the chief's curse would only affect one presidency in five, but one cannot, after all, expect the fanciful to cover everything.

Another version attributes the curse to Tenskwatawa (also known as "The Prophet"), a Shawnee medicine man who was half-brother to Tecumseh. The hex was supposedly his revenge for the death of his half-sibling.

"Harrison will die I tell you," the Prophet reportedly said. "And after him, every Great Chief chosen every 20 years thereafter will die. And when each one dies, let everyone remember the death of my people."

Stirring words indeed, but there's no reason to suppose they were actually uttered. No record of either Tecumseh or Tenskwatawa laying a whammy on American presidents has yet surfaced — it's all undocumented folktale at this point and is as likely just someone's imaginative backstory to the inexplicable as it is anything else.

Folks have been taking note of this string of presidential deaths for quite some time — it's not a new snippet of spooky information recently dropped into the lap of the American people. A Ripley's Believe It or Not book published in 1934 noted the coincidental twenty-year pattern of presidential deaths between 1840 and 1920, with question marks in place of a name for the upcoming 1940 entry indicating the presumption of a continuing pattern. The pattern did, of course, hold true again when Franklin Roosevelt, who had been re-elected in 1940, filled in that blank by dying in office in 1945.

As to what to make of the "curse," it's interesting to note that since 1840, only one President other than those supposedly felled by this ill-wishing has died in office: Zachary Taylor, who was elected in 1848 and died in 1850 of a stomach ailment. (Taylor's body was exhumed in 1991 to investigate a theory that he had been poisoned with arsenic, but the results were negative). Also interesting is the notion that the curse is a

William McKinley was re-elected in 1900. In September 1901, after giving a speech at an exposition in Buffalo, he was shot while shaking hands

with wellwishers. McKinley died of his wounds a little more than a week later.

Warren G. Harding, elected in 1920, expired of a stroke or heart attack in 1923. It was long rumored his wife had poisoned him.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, re-elected in 1940 for a third term, suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and died just after having started an unprecedented fourth term in 1945.

John F. Kennedy was elected in 1960 and assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963.

Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980 but managed to cheat the Grim Reaper by a matter of an inch, the distance by which would-be assassin John Hinckley's bullet missed his heart in 1981.

Maybe Reagan also broke the "every 20 years" curse. Or maybe it's just sleeping.

Those who look to make sense of eerie coincidences have come up with an explanation to account for this string of deaths: an ancient Indian curse, supposedly administered by Tecumseh himself after suffering defeat at the hands in William Henry Harrison at the Battle of Tippecanoe.

Venti is the Italian word for 20. A venti drink at Starbuck is 20 ounces. While looking into the word venti I discovered the nutritional information for the venti drinks.

20 Min Cat Naps

College students and kindergartens love them. Now, there may be proof that catching a few zzz’s in the afternoon can be beneficial to your health.

Researchers have found in recent years that the human body requires only as much sleep as the brain will allow it. In other words, so long as the brain is functioning at full capacity, there’s no great requirement for sleep. The big thing is that the brain needs a rest every now and then, and apparently, the brain can refresh itself and go on “like with a full tank of gas” with just a short, 20-minute power nap.

These short 20-minute power naps for people who are really engrossed in their work, almost always provide a fresh burst of new ideas and energy. They tend to eliminate the need for caffeine boosts during the workday. And, they guarantee a reserve of energy so that the working day isn’t followed by an evening in which he falls asleep on the couch watching TV or at a social event.

Here’s what you need to know about the benefits of sleep and how a power nap can help you:

1. Less stress.

Curling up in a sunny patch on the floor or even lying your head down on your desk for a quick snooze brings relaxation. Research found that stress hormone levels were lower in those who took stress-reducing actions such as napping. Take a break each day from the stresses and reduce your risks, find a quiet, comfortable spot and take a nap. Even a short power nap can leave you feeling refreshed, renewed, and more focused.

2. Increased alertness and productivity.

If you have the opportunity for a power nap, particularly after a poor night of sleep, by all means, take one. You will feel more alert and energetic afterwards, and once rested after your mid-afternoon nap, your mood, efficiency, and alertness level will improve greatly. Scientists have even proven that taking a 20-minute nap approximately eight hours after you have awaken will do more for your stamina than sleeping another 20 minutes in the morning. Of course when you first come out of your afternoon nap, you will feel a bit groggy for around ten minutes, but once your decline in motor dexterity dissipates, you will reap the rewards of being well rested and ready to go for the rest of the day.

3. Improved memory and learning.

Naps aren’t just for the very young, old, and sluggish. Daytime dozing may enhance a person’s capacity to learn certain tasks. That, at least, is the eye-opening implication of a new study in which college students were challenged to detect subtle changes in an image during four different test sessions on the same day.

Participants improved on the task throughout the first session. The students’ speed and accuracy then leveled off during the second session. The scores of the participants who didn’t nap declined throughout the final two sessions. In contrast, volunteers who took a 20-minute power nap after completing the second practice session showed no ensuing performance dips. What’s more, 1-hour power nappers responded progressively faster and more accurately in the third and fourth sessions. It looks like napping may protect brain circuits from overuse until those neurons can consolidate what’s been learned about a procedure.

4. Good for the heart.

Taking 40 winks in the middle of the day may reduce the risk of death from heart disease, particularly in young healthy men, say researchers. They studied 23,681 individuals living in Greece who had no history of coronary heart disease, stroke or cancer when they first volunteered, and found that those who took a 30-minute siesta at least three times a week had a 37% lower risk of heart-related death. The researchers took into account ill health, age, and whether people were physically active. So go ahead and nap — a short daily snooze might ward off a heart attack later in life. It is known that countries where siestas are common tend to have lower levels of heart disease.

5. Increased cognitive functioning.

In a recent study, researchers at NASA showed that a 30-minute power nap increased cognitive faculties by approximately 40 percent! Tests carried out on one thousand volunteers proved that those who continued working without rest, made lower scores in intelligence tests like the IQ test. More importantly, their capacities to work and memorize decreased in comparison to those who napped after lunch.

In concordance with NASA’s work, biology students at Berkeley determined that the nap must be short in order to produce maximum effectiveness. Over forty five minutes, the beneficial effects of napping disappear and it is therefore suggested to take a fifteen to thirty five minute “power nap”. This is the time necessary for the organism to rest and enables brain neurons to recuperate.

6. Get motivated to exercise.

Sufficient sleep and naps help motivate exercise. Some 28 percent of adolescents say they are too tired to exercise, due to sleep. As adults, let’s not let tiredness ruin our jogs. You’re guaranteed to run longer, faster, more efficiently and mindfully when your body has it’s required amount of zzzz’s. So, store-up, shore-up and build-up your energy reserve with a power nap. It’s easy (free!) and proven effective.

7. Boost your creativity.

Rest and relaxation isn’t only vital to your health — it might also make you a more creative person. People tend to be more imaginative after a good night’s sleep. Other experts agree that taking a nap or stepping away from a problem or project refreshes the mind and could lead to better ideas later. Power napping allows your brain to create the loose associations necessary for creative insight and opens the way for a fresh burst of new ideas. So if you feel stuck, then you might want to take a nap. Return to the problem after diverting your attention for a while. The best part is that there’s no need to feel guilty, because taking some “me time,” in this case, could help your business in the long run.

8. Make up for midnight tossing and turning.

Some of the most recent research suggests that a bad night’s sleep can stress the body as well as the mind. One such study, suggests that missing sleep throws the body’s metabolism off kilter. Scientists at the University of Chicago studied physical changes in 11 young men who slept four hours per night for six nights in a row. They found that sleep deprivation seemed to trigger a diabetes-like condition, harmed hormone production, and interfered with the ability to use carbohydrates.

According to some studies, power napping is clearly beneficial to someone who is a normal sleeper but who is getting insufficient sleep at night. Researchers still don’t understand the underlying neurobiology, but it looks like sleep time is cumulative. They compared the alertness of people who slept eight hours a night to that of people who slept less but took a nap during the day. Both groups were equivalent.

9. Protect yourself from sleepiness.

Scientists had also found benefits in the “prophylactic” nap for people who have to stay up late. It can protect you from sleepiness. If you have to be up all night, a two-hour or a four-hour nap does provide additional alertness the next day. Research conducted by NASA produced similar results. Naps are clearly useful for some people, including shift workers, students, and anyone doing long-haul work, such as pilots on transcontinental runs.

10. Better health.

Napping in general benefits heart functioning, hormonal maintenance, and cell repair, says Dr. Sara Mednick who is at the forefront of napping research. A power nap, says Mednick, simply maximizes these benefits by getting the sleeper into and out of rejuvenating sleep as fast as possible.

Did You Know...

You are born with 20 baby teeth!

Deciduous teeth, otherwise known as milk teeth, baby teeth, temporary teeth, primary teeth are the first set of teeth in the growth development of humans and many other mammals. They develop during the embryonic stage of development and erupt — that is, they become visible in the mouth — during infancy. They are usually lost and replaced by permanent teeth, but in the absence of permanent replacements, they can remain functional for many years.

The 20th Letter in the Alphabet

“T” represents development.

Bustle and activity motivate this letter. Persons having this letter in their name tend to be restless. They need to keep busy. Idle hands, to them, are truly the devils workers.

Leadership is one of their better qualities. Loss of control is one of their most feared situations. Being in command brings out enthusiasm for life in them.

Curious, they like to see how everything works. Along with the curiosity, they are full of creative endeavors.

Some say of “T” people that they have a true sense of style. “T’s” though, take their appearance for granted.

Staying neat is a prerequisite for them. They need everything in its place. Anything out of place leads to chaos for them.

These solemn people have a strong belief on the spiritual side. Trying to lead pious lives they go out of their way to be what they consider virtuous. One might consider “T” people to be some of the most ardent, religious souls in the world. Not easily persuaded to change their minds, they stubbornly hold onto their belief systems.

They hold their morals high and expect others to do so too. When they find someone who fits th
eir moral standards, they hold them in high esteem.

Negative “T’s” are over-emotional. Being easily influenced by others opinions; they cannot make decisions for themselves. These people need to learn self-control, not just in thought but also in deed and action.

Anyone out there with a "T" Name??? Do you think this is true and accurate??

20/20 Vision

The expression "20/20" is so common in the United States that there's even a TV show named after it. Here's where the 20/20 designation comes from.
By looking at lots of people, eye doctors have decided what a "normal" human being should be able to see when standing 20 feet away from an eye chart. If you have 20/20 vision, it means that when you stand 20 feet away from the chart you can see what the "normal" human being can see. (In metric, the standard is 6 meters and it's called 6/6 vision)
